Scotland – land of low grey cloud, wet squish grass and muddy puddles.
Scotland’s beautiful when the sun shines but I have a strong appreciation for the dramatic look when it’s wet and cloudy.

This weekend we spent out in the fresh Scottish air, supervising a group doing a Duke of Edinburgh hike, a challenge I completed in high school. It was great to be out there, it reminded me Scotland is a wonderful place. It made me think, this is the life I want for my children, fresh air, green life, dirt, water.
This is a thought I often have these days as we think more about settling somewhere, it not just the two of us I consider any more.
I want to love my life surrounded by green and brown and black and grey.
Spring is my favourite season in Scotland, it’s almost as if we are surprised to get such beautiful days.
It reminds me that I really do live in a beautiful place, it reminds me of what the tourists come to see.
It reminds me of new life, from baby highland coos, to the lambs bouncing around the hillside.
Spring brings the arrival of puffins, their short chubby bodies, bright beaks and short wings.
Spring reminds you to pause for a moment and savour that warm sun and the beauty of everything around.
Spring brings clarity.

This past week we attended a wedding of friends, it was truly a lovely weekend. The best way to celebrate your Scottish roots at a wedding is by wearing your family tartan.
Of course getting married in a historic building sure does help.
It also helps when you invite loads of Scottish friends who are sure to turn up in a selection of tartans on the day bring a lot more colour than most men would otherwise.
Then ensure everyone complains about how unseasonable hot it is in Scotland, especially for those men wearing kilts!
P.S: When photographing men in kilts it’s always better to take a photo head to toe then crop later, otherwise you’ll get some funny looks…

Recently we took a wander along Stonehaven harbour.
There was water everywhere, in the skies, in the air and of course in the sea.
Treating us to an assortment of shades of grey – a colour which is generally underrated but a bit part of our life in the north east of Scotland.
Although thanks to all the water there’s also plenty of green too.
It’s a sleepy peaceful town at the weekend.
The harbour’s quiet apart from the occasional holiday maker or local taking an afternoon stroll.
All the boats are safely stowed away, strung up by an assortment of ropes.
Most importantly there’s a couple of great pubs with tasty food, which is why we came here in the first place!
