Motivational Coffee?

I’ve been feeling a little lacking in motivation recently, I need that first cup of coffee in the morning – that’s no secret. I’m really keen to establish some kind of morning routine though; if I don’t start the day off with a little structure it’s easy to become a zombie-like being, floating through the day.

If we were meeting for coffee today I’d be asking you for details of your morning routine, perhaps a personal question but a very interesting one too. In an ideal world my morning routine would include:

Rise early – I get up at the moment with just a little less than the minimum time I need to get ready and get out of the house, an extra 30minutes or even an hour would make a huge difference

Shower, wash face, brush teeth – this is the only part of the morning routine which I manage currently

Stretching or Yoga – I need to do more yoga and stretching to help strengthen my back and the improve my flexibility, I love the way yoga makes me feel so calm too.

Healthy breakfast – sitting down at the table, I’d like to enjoy something tasty and healthy. Home made juice, muesli and yoghurt, even some warm homemade pancakes for a treat occasionally.

Time to write – to sit for 5 minutes and clear my brain, write down my to-do list instead of letting it cycle in my head all the time. To write in my journal for 5 or 10 further minutes

Then I could leave the house feeling ready for the day, I think about this often, almost every day this past week I’ve considered it, I’ve gone to bed with such resolution, then when the alarm goes off I think, just 5 more minutes, then it’s after 7am and I’m rushing around like a mad woman again.

Perhaps this week will be different…

  1. I wish I could say I have a morning routine, but it's different every day. I'm just not really a creature of habit (at least not that kind of habit). But I DO love the mornings that start with yoga! And I sometimes find that some mundane tasks (like sweeping the floors or setting out the laundry on the line to dry) help center and orient me for the rest of the day.

  3. I love getting up early in the morning. If I get up before everyone else and get my morning started I feel much more relaxed and on task. This rarely happens but when it does my days are so much smoother.

  5. I know that feeling, sometimes I think I run on coffee and chocolate - I hope you are feeling more awake this morning, it's a glorious sunny day here which helps.

  6. Hi Kimberley,
I want to love getting up early in the morning, I think I would if I could just break the cycle of the lie-ins!

  8. Hi Jade,
I would love to be able to start with yoga, it always makes me feel so calm and ready for the day. I agree about the mundane tasks, I always find ironing strangely relaxing.

  9. i need to get serious myself about a morning routine. now that spring is here i don't have an excuse to stay in bed like i do in the freezing winter. my goal is to get up early and walk 3 mornings a week. good luck to you!

  10. Amy,
I agree, it's warm enough here not to have an excuse and it's light enough too. Walking is a great idea for a morning - not as hard as running so I'd be more likely to do it.
    Good luck to you too!
