If you could choose, where would you be right not? In this cold, rainy Scottish day I’d rather be sitting on Santa Monica Pier with a chilli dog in the spring sunshine. Tasty street food, great view, different culture, warm weather and anonymity, just sitting on a bench with a seagull, not knowing the time.

This week I’m a Zombie
This week has been a bit of a blur to me, it really feels like it’s Friday, I have to admit. I was in the USA the week before last and for some reason it’s taking me forever to get over it!
I don’t normally have any problems with jet lag and manage to snap into a new time zone within a day, my rule is never sleep unless it’s dark. When I got back last week though I took the next day off and slept in until 1pm, since then I’ve been feeling like a zombie – and it’s been an entire week.
I know the best way to get over it - to sleep at the right time, drink plenty of fluids, eat healthily, exercise etc. etc. but all I want to do is lounge on the sofa with a cup of tea and a chocolate biscuit!
The trip to the US was so enjoyable though, mainly due to the amount of food (I did not eat all those donuts – promise!) and margaritas involved, but I thrive on the change of scenery and I get excited about things like a trip to Target or seeing cowboy boots.
I posted recently about how I become an alternative version of myself when in Texas and it’s kind of true. I think that’s why I find a trip so refreshing it allows me to enter into an alternative life, I can imagine what it would be like to live there.
Still at the end of a couple of flights it’s so good to be home, even if I’m a zombie still on US time and still dreaming of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

When in Texas
When I visit Texas, I turn into an alternative version of myself, an semi-American version. I don’t know what causes it, perhaps the weather or the time difference or maybe just the vastness of everything that is America. However a little bit of my Britishness remains intact.
I drink plenty of Margaritas, but I can’t stay up past 11pm
I eat giant portions of meat, then I get up at 6am to go to the gym
I say ‘you guys’ and ‘y’all’, but still spell flavour and favour correctly
I drink cheesecake milkshake, but can’t force myself to eat American chocolate
I love to eat warm cinnamon rolls for breakfast, but I complain about the weak coffee
I’ll take a baked sweet potato any day but hold the cinnamon butter
I marvel at your huge closets, but argue all night with you about guns in your home
I’ll eat anything Reese’s but don’t dare offer me a cup of microwaves tea to go with it
There’s so much I love about Texas, mostly it’s the things that are different to the UK, it’s what makes America America, but it’s always nice to come home, especially for a real cup of tea!
